Dr. Praveen Kumar Singh did his Graduation in Agriculture (1987), Post Graduation in Genetics & Plant Breeding (1989) and Ph.D. in Genetics & Plant Breeding (1992) from prestigious Banaras Hindu University with Distinguished Merits and Triple Gold Medals. He joined Agricultural Research Services of ICAR in 1992 and was working as Principal Scientist (Plant Breeding) at ICAR- IISR, Lucknow before joining as Agriculture Commissioner, Government of India during September, 2022. In his 30 years of service, he is credited with the release and notification of 14 subtropical sugarcane varieties, 03 novel germplasm registrations, more than 60 research papers in journals of repute, 100 invited lectures in Seminars/Symposia/Trainings, 80 Book Chapters/Lead Papers and 125 abstracts in proceedings. He is recognized for his expertise in IPR issues, Seed Production and Farmers’ Rights.
Dr. Singh has also worked as Registrar, PPV&FR Authority, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. He is Fellow of ISGPB, Fellow of AABS and Life Member of various Societies. He was Secretary of ASTI, Organizing Secretary, National Sugar Fests/ Several Conclaves, Trainings etc and Recipient of Rajbhasha Awards of Govt. of India. He received VISTA 2020 Distinguished Researcher in Plant Breeding Award and several other recognitions during his service.
Dr. Singh, as Agriculture Commissioner, is Chairman of Central Insecticides Board Registration Committee, Central Biostimulants Committee and Central Fertilizer Committee of Government of India. He is entrusted with the responsibility of guiding technical issues related to agriculture during planning and execution of schemes under Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and other allied departments. He is Member of the Board of Management of Central
Agricultural Universities, ICAR and several other Missions, Committees etc.
